Why Haritan — The Place We Start From

Choosing a local base is not only a logistical decision. For Josoor Al Amal, being present in Haritan means staying close to people and to the daily changes taking place as families return and communities move into a new phase of recovery.

North-west Aleppo faces interconnected needs: schools working to restore access to learning, community spaces requiring rehabilitation, and families seeking stability after years of displacement and conflict. We believe effective responses begin with understanding the place and listening to the people who live there.

From Haritan, we build relationships with local communities and seek to understand priorities before designing interventions. This proximity helps programmes remain practical and responsive to local social, cultural and educational realities.

For us, recovery begins with people, and local presence is the first step toward building trust and working with communities rather than on their behalf.
