The Amal Network — How Locally Rooted Organizations Cooperate Across Italy, Türkiye and Syria

The Amal Network connects locally rooted entities working in Italy, Türkiye and Syria. What links them is not one centralized management structure, but shared values, methodologies, operational and safeguarding standards, and a strategic vision that supports cooperation while each entity remains grounded in its local context.

The network began with Amal for Education APS in Rome in 2014, and experience developed across displacement, migration and humanitarian-response contexts, eventually supporting a permanent local presence inside Syria through Josoor Al Amal.

This model enables knowledge exchange, training, shared methodologies and cross-border partnerships while preserving the importance of local leadership. Challenges connected to displacement, education, protection and recovery do not stop at national borders, but effective responses still require deep understanding of local realities.

The network therefore combines transnational cooperation with local ownership: shared learning and standards, alongside decisions and responses rooted in the communities where programmes are delivered.
